Karla Esquivel has emerged as one of the most promising Mexican actresses of her generation. Her talent shines through every complex character she takes on, bringing stories to life with a rare combination of strength, sensitivity, and depth.
Beyond acting, her journey reflects passion, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to staying true to herself. Constantly exploring new creative horizons, Karla balances professional growth with personal authenticity, carving a path in the industry that blends artistry, humanity, and a fresh, inspiring perspective: “For me it is very important to be real and honest.”
Right now you’re working on the new production “Mi Verdad Oculta.” What immediately attracted you to the script or the character in this new project?
Karla Esquivel: Yes! One of the things that interested me the most in being part of this project was portraying the “clean,” innocent past of a woman who is just starting her career, and how four ruthless men steal her dreams and the light of her life… What caught my attention the most was the challenge of performing very heavy scenes full of violence, action, and deep trauma for the character. Literally, everything that happens to my character is what sets the entire story in motion, and she returns 20 years later to seek justice with her own hands, then played by Susana González.
What do you hope the audience feels when watching “Mi Verdad Oculta”?
Karla: I genuinely hope they can look directly at the reality that so many women sadly face around the world, but especially in this country. I hope they feel empathy and understand the importance of the feminist movement.
What makes you feel fulfilled at this moment in your life?
Karla: Being with my family, prioritizing rest, and taking care of my physical and emotional well-being.
What excites you about the future you’re building?
Karla: Sharing it, continuing to grow alongside my people—the ones who have supported me from the very beginning—because I really believe nothing matters more than sharing your triumphs and hard moments with your people. I’m excited to see where I continue to grow, what stories I’ll tell, what challenges the characters I’ll portray will bring, who I’ll work with in the industry, etc. The future is something that fills me with hope.
Which women have inspired you, inside and outside the artistic world?
Karla: I’m inspired by all women who fight for what they want, who speak up, who achieve their goals, who are mothers, sisters, friends. I’m very inspired by Mexican actresses like Silvia Navarro, Ludwika Paleta, Bárbara Mori, Regina Blandón, among many others. And outside the industry, my biggest inspiration is definitely my mom.
How would you like to be remembered as an artist and as a person?
Karla: In both cases, I’d like to be remembered as a genuine, honest, and loyal person. For me, it’s very important to be someone real, someone honest. Of course, I also want to be remembered for portraying great characters, but beyond that, I’d like to be remembered for genuinely being a good human being.
What does it mean to you to belong to a new generation of Mexican actresses?
Karla: Wow! It’s something I always dreamed of. I believe this new generation of actresses is coming in with a strong desire to do great things, to be good collaborators and good colleagues, and, when leading a project, to be good leaders. There are many of us who want to change a lot of the stigmas in the industry, and I believe that little by little we will achieve that change.
What inspires you outside of acting?
Karla: Writing—whether composing music, creating new stories, or building new fictional universes that I might, if I’m fortunate, get to portray someday.
How do you stay true to yourself in such a demanding industry?
Karla: I always say it’s thanks to my people—my family—who keep me grounded and remind me where I come from. Knowing that no matter where I go, I’ll always be the same at my core.
What have you learned about yourself on this journey of personal and professional growth?
Karla: How resilient I can be, and how impactful it is for me to realize my own potential and to see that whatever I set my mind to, I can achieve—without abandoning my values or the way I am and think. I still have a lot to learn, but what’s important is that I also have the space within myself to keep learning.
